Born into a family of painters in Morocco and France, Rebecca Brodskis discusses the origins of her figurative practice and her decision to study sociology alongside painting. She traces her path from Central Saint Martins in London to New York, and finally to Berlin in the mid-2000s—a formative period she now revisits in her exhibition THE LAST ONES AWAKE at the Vault of KÖNIG GALERIE.

Brodskis describes her intuitive, un-sketched approach to painting and her reliance on visual rather than photographic memory. She also talks about her recurring collaborations with dance and performance, including a live performance by Aurora at the Berlin Art Week opening. She reflects on raising two children while maintaining an itinerant studio practice across Senegal, the Ivory Coast, Tel Aviv and Marseille, as well as on why the bohemian conditions that Berlin was famous for in the 2000s continue to shape her sense of chosen family and belonging.
