...with Johanna Dumet
In this episode of WAS MIT KUNST, Johann König talks to the French-born, Berlin-based artist Johanna Dumet. Johann and Johanna talk about her first show in a bike shop in Kreuzberg, Berlin, about the love that led her to pursue a career in art and about her ongoing projects. Most of her paintings feature motifs of memories from her childhood, centered around her home. Her paintings frequently revolve around the themes of tables, food, and moments of connection between people, capturing the beauty of these everyday experiences.
Additionally, she has grown weary of the objectification of women in art and chooses to paint nudes without sexualizing them, rather than resorting to the typical male gaze. Johanna paints with oil on canvas; she also uses other techniques such as gouache-painted paper glued to the canvas. She is known for painting impulsively, with a strong sense of flow and without constraint. During the gallery weekend from April 28th to 30th, a selection of her works will be shown at König Galerie, Berlin.
